BirdNotes – 30 June 2017 – Revisit to this day a year ago – Costa Rica

I’ve been super busy with wood carvings and have remiss in my birding. While I have lots of birds around all day they are the same old guys. I shoot a bunch of photos, but they are all of the same dozen species. For a change of pace, I dug back in the old files and will share the post from Costa Rica a year ago.

Weather here in La Ribera remains pleasent. 70’s at night, 80’s in the mornings, hits 90 about noon and peaks out about 95 in the afternoon.

BirdNotes – 17 June 2017 – male Costa’s at feeder- purple flash photos

A surprise this morning … the Northern Rough-wing Swallows have shown up. they were mixed in with the nighthawks. The nighthawks have been here for the last couple of weeks, but today they were joined by a couple of dozen swallows.

Day starts with low clouds so not much sun at 0700. Spent my normal hour near the feeders photographing the locals. Got a few shots of a pair of cardinals which I’ll share.

While driving my scooter to the store this morning I spotted a kestrel. Thank goodness  the camera was in the scotter basket. The Kestrel was hunting grasshoppers and I got some shots.

BirdNotes – 09 June 2017 – Some Baja birds from this morning

Had a friend bring down new band saw blades … so I’m back in a carving mode. Have six different porpoise and two different local birds all in various states of carving. I’ve received gifts of wood from many friends. Some wonderful hardwoods that will make great sculptures. If you would like me to carve something for you, drop me an email. I’m looking for challenges.
