The Broad-billed hummer is still sticking around, I hope he becomes a resident.

Well I did it … I walked completely around the block. Of course after my failed attempt testerday, I had to get creative.

I broke my resolution on upper-body exersize … even a little water in the plastic jugs were too heavy.

BirdNotes – 17 Jan 2017 – Another story and the Black-headed Grosbeak

Tuesday, January 17th, 2017

Sticking to my resolution of getting more exersize this year … I’ve decided that water in the jug was just too much work. It got too damned heavy.

BirdNotes – 13 Jan 2017 – strange critter in my kitchen

Friday, January 13th, 2017

Day starts with heavy overcast, looks like much needed rain. No luck, as it cleared up about noon. Haven’t had a real rain in months now. Looks like California is ‘hogging’ it all.

BirdNotes – 05 Jan 2017 – Hummers

Friday, January 6th, 2017
The male Broad-bill hummer has returned (if he ever left). Did get some not so very good shots. Will show with the other local hummers so that you may see the differences. Also have a pair of Cardinals at the seed feeders.

(2) blue throat, (3) short eye stripe.

BirdNotes – 03 Jan 2017 – more birds

Tuesday, January 3rd, 2017

Had a half dozen answers to the ‘mystery’ bird from yesterday. Consenses was the female Brown-headed Cowbird. The bill shape kinda helped. That was my conclusion earlier, so I feel vindicated. This bird is a winter visitor in our area and I was surprised that it was not in a small flock, as these are social birds.

BirdNotes – 01 Jan 2017 – First birds of the yearr

Monday, January 2nd, 2017
2017 starts right with a new bird at the seed feeder. Sent me to the books for an ID. A quick search has yielded a couple of suspects, but not solid ID yet. Maybe you can help … I’ll show you the photos that I have. Any help would be welcome. Damn bird is the most ‘plain-jane’ bird I have ever encountered.
Each morning I’ve spend a fun hour or two sitting on my front porch shooting photos. Have far too many to share, so I’ll pick out just a few.
First off the ‘mystery’ bird that I need help on. I’ll not tell you what I think it is because I don’t want to influence your ID.
come on, sweety, give me a kiss ..
Ok, only if you marry me …
Damn men … just kiss and run.

Word for today :

There no disguise around the “grand” bit but you might not spot the relation immediately to words such as eloquent, locution, and ventriloquist. Once you’ve got it though, it’s a no-brainer to see that grandiloquence designates a lofty style or manner in the use of language.
